Split the jobs
Job A — receive the paper
1099s, brand catalogs, a check from a wholesaler, a letter from a state tax board. Any serious mailbox does this. Owned hubs do it with less “the store closed” risk.
Job B — pass identity and occupancy checks
Seller verification, processor KYC, sometimes a utility bill or lease in the entity name. A PMB at a CMRA is the thing those checks are built to reject.
Mailbox ads sell Job A with Job B photography. Buy them separately.
What we can cite from the processors themselves
Stripe
Stripe’s U.S. address-validation document for Issuing, Treasury for platforms, Opal, and Corporate Card says Stripe “can no longer allow addresses for registered agents, mailbox services, or virtual address services,” and that CMRA addresses fail with invalid_address_cmra_address. The remediation text is “update your address to a physical location where you operate” or appeal with a lease, utility bill, tax filing, or similar.
That document is scoped to those money-management products, not to every Payments-only account on earth. Treat it as the direction of travel. If you only process charges today, do not assume you are exempt when you add cards or a balance. Secondary 2026 write-ups (NV Inc., Laramie Ledger) describe Payments accounts being asked for the same occupancy story. Those are reported patterns, not a Stripe help article we can quote for Payments.
Shopify Payments
Shopify’s public merchant docs emphasize identity and eligibility; they do not publish a CMRA table the way Stripe Issuing does. Industry write-ups in 2026 — for example NV Inc.’s non-resident seller notes — claim Shopify has said in writing that a U.S. LLC plus a registered agent, virtual mailbox, or CMRA does not establish operational presence. We have not independently retrieved Shopify’s private underwriting memo. Practical stance: if Shopify asks for a lease or utility bill, a marketplace PMB will not become one.
Amazon seller verification
Amazon’s seller help has long asked for identity documents and, when they doubt the address, bills or bank statements that match. VirtualPostMail sells TruLease specifically against Amazon and marketplace checks, including an optional utility bill in the company name, and warns that a landlord-named bill is usually not enough for banks. We take VPM at its word about what they sell. We do not have Amazon’s internal accept/reject file, so we will not invent a pass rate.

iPostal1 is the stand-in for Anytime and PostScan on Job B. All three are F for banking/KYC. US Global Mail is a strong Job A hub and still an F on KYC because it is a CMRA. TruLease is the only product here built for Job B, graded C+ because a lease packet is not a decision from Amazon or Stripe.

A setup that matches the documents
- Operating / occupancy address — home if you truly work there and the platform allows a residence; or a commercial lease (traditional or TruLease-style) with a utility bill in the LLC name if they ask for one. Mercury and Relay already write this down for banks. Stripe Issuing writes it down for cards and balances.
- Mailbox — owned hub if you can; marketplace store if you need a city. Use it for paper, not for the KYC field.
- Registered agent — still required in the formation state. Do not type that street into Stripe’s company address if Stripe will classify it as an RA.
- FBA inventory — Amazon warehouses are not your principal office. Do not use a fulfillment-center address as your legal HQ.
- Google Business Profile — if you have no customer-facing site, hide the address as a service-area business or skip Maps. A mailbox pin is how listings get suspended. Google’s rule.
Do not “suite-wash” a CMRA. Putting “Suite 210” instead of “PMB 210” does not change the USPS registration. Stripe and Mercury are not reading your letterhead. They are reading databases.
When a cheap mailbox is still the right buy
You already have a home or shop that the processor accepted, you just want IRS paper out of the kitchen, and you are not trying to manufacture a second headquarters on Maps. Then buy scans. Prefer an owned hub. If you are in San Diego proper, read which storefronts we could actually confirm.
